Pombura Spring is a natural spring and is located on the outskirts of Bardez Taluka, Goa. It is said to be the most popular tourist destination for domestic as well as for foreign tourists.
The crystal clear waters are considered to be medicinal, as most springs are, and every summer people visit the spring in large numbers. Originally belonging to the Church, it now under the care of the Tourism Department. Way back in 1915, this spring was developed by Augusto Mathias Pinto e Joaquim Vicente Pinto de Olaulim. Although there are many other springs in nearby areas, the Pomburpa spring still holds its own. Nestled amidst areca nut plantations, the spring makes you feel almost one with nature. The Tourism Department has carried out a lot of improvements to the spring in terms of a building structure, changing rooms, sulabhs, performance stage, etc. The newly renovated property now has an enclosure and the grounds within has been landscaped, so much so that many fail to recognize the place.
However, it is also known for its medicinal value, the spring water is used for bathing by ailing men and women who throng the spot throughout the year. This spring also comes on the top of the tourist’s list for spending weekends and picnics. Goa is blessed with a number of freshwater springs. Pomburpa Spring happens to be one of the very famous springs in Goa. One can see many locals, as well as foreign tourists, come here for a bath. The spring waters are said to be medicinal. Many family and group picnics are held here. The place has been built up now with cement and stones. Two water pipes are fitted in through with the spring water flows and make it more convenient to have a bath. Pomburpa is situated at a distance of 6 kilometers from Panjim.
How to Reach:
To reach Pomburpa, one can visit Pomburpa by local bus, taxi or bike. If you wish to come from Chorao island than you may come to Pomburpa via ferry. Chorao is also joined by ferry to Ribandar, on the Panaji-Old Goa Highway, and by ferry to Pomburpa, though Pomburpa is off the tourist track and hence pretty inconvenient. It is connected with the city and transport is widely available to reach this location.
