Carambolim Lake is situated at a distance of two kms south east of Old Goa in the Tiswadi district. It was mainly constructed for facilitating irrigation in the surrounding areas. This man-made freshwater lake is surrounded by green fields. Carambolim Lake receives migratory birds as well.
Carambolim Lake has a rich ecology which provides an opportunity to see birds like waterfowls, egrets, jacanas, moorhens, herons, pintails, open-billed storks, lesser whistling teals, shovelers, garganeys and coots that fly above this lake. The bird sanctuary in Carambolim is the biggest attraction of the small village which known as Karmoli village. Located at a distance of 12 kms from Panaji this place not only includes the exotic bird sanctuary but also the age old Church that was built during 1714. The place also has an age old chapel while it is mainly known as the third major and oldest station on the Konkan.
How to Reach:
The Karmali or carmbolim Railway station is so near to this lake and most of the trains stop by this station. You can see Lake view from railway station itself. The nearest airport is the Dabolim airport in Goa. From here you can hire a cab to the Carambolim Village. If you wish to go to Panaji later than you can walk a km away on the main road of Panaji to Ponda to get Local buses. Caramboli is well connected by road from the mainland and also nearby towns and cities.
